There’s something to be said for not settling and building the bike of your dreams. When Tom got into cycling, the Cervelo S5 was his dream bike. He loved everything about it and the design philosophy that Cervelo used to push the boundaries of aerodynamics in a bicycle. Unfortunately, he settled and ended up building up a different frame set from a different manufacturer that he got for a deal. Not being happy, he ended up selling that and building up another frame set, and then another and another. Eventually, Tom just bit the bullet and built the bike he’d been looking for in all of those other builds, a Cervelo S5.

The positive side of all of those other bike builds was that Tom figured out what he really liked in terms of components and it made him appreciate the riding aspects of the S5 that much more. He says that this bike just wants to go. It doesn’t seem to lack any motivation when climbing, but really loves going downhill and rolling on flats or rolling roads. I can attest to that, personally. The day I photographed the bike, Tom and I went for a ride afterward and this thing just flew on every downhill section.
